The New Museum Of Akropolis

How to get there


The museum was designed specifically for pedestrian visitors. We provide parking. Escaping from the metro station «Acropolis» Turn left and the pavement of Dionyssiou Areopagitou St., opposite the Acropolis, at the entrance of the museum, three hundred meters southeast of the Parthenon, in the historic district Makrygianni.


The exhibits

The building consists of three parts. The base houses the archaeological findings, the middle part of the main exhibition spaces and epistepsi that houses the sculptures. In the first, in a spacious room with sloping glass floor presents findings from the older established sanctuaries on the slopes of the sacred rock of Acropolis and findings from the settlement that developed there. The Temple of the nymph, the amfiglyfo of Telemachos Asklipio from the theater faces from the sanctuary of Dionysus Elefthereos are some of the exhibits. The gaze of visitors drawn by the imposing glass staircase at the end of the hall. At the top of the exposed large architectural sculptures of the pediments of Ekatompedou, the first temple of the goddess Athena on the Acropolis. On the south side of the room are the daughters and the Horsemen of the Archaic period and rising imposingly Gigantomachy of the sculptures from the pediment of the archaic temple of Athena Polias. From the open balconies on the second floor admire panoramic rooms with exhibits and then reach the terrace of the room with the sculptures, which is the most impressive site. The visitor has the opportunity to admire all the surviving sculptures, authentic, you are in Greece, in which there are copies in the British Museum, while observing the chagrin dismembered sculptures. And shopping and restaurant

Operates two stand, one on the ground floor and a restaurant adjacent to the second floor. On the ground floor, visitors find postcards, stationery and children's museum row. The restaurant of the museum, which operates from 8 am until 8 pm offers a variety of foods and Greek dishes. At present, there are reservations. The cafe is open only to visitors of the museum. It will work in a year from now and another exhibition hall. Indeed, visitors will be able to walk over the ruins of the ancient quarter.
